Product Catalogue Description

Product Types

Finshed Goods

Valio manages a single product type across its catalog: simple products, which are neither configurable nor bundled. These items are sold as-is, without the need for customization or assembly from multiple components. In the context of CPQ, these products will be classified as 'Finished Goods'. This designation indicates that the products are ready for sale.

Product Group Bundle and Product groupss

Another specific product type is added to the catalog as a Product Bundle to manage product groups. this specific product will embed product object representing the product groups in order to hold discount and Head Office Fees data.

The child products of the Bundle will have the Type as 'Product Group'

This product type will have no other spcific attributes except the “Type” field, product Group discounts and head offiece fees data stored in a sperate lookup Data that will be used in the quoting process.

EDIT : In order to avoid duplicates with Finished Goods Product IDs The Product Groups “Product record will have PG_as Prefix

Product Catalogue Hierarchy

The Valio product structure is organized into a three-level hierarchy that enables a consistent classification of items. This hierarchy will facilitate catalog navigation, automation of product Management rules, and performance analysis by product families in CPQ.

The hierarchy is built across the following three levels:

  • Level 1 – Main Product Categories : These represent the broadest groupings of the product offering, aligned with strategic business segments.
Examples: Dairy Products, Fruits and Vegetables, Meats and Delicatessen.

  • Level 2 and 3 – Subcategories : Each main category is broken down into more specific subcategories and sub-subcategories for better classification.

Individual Products, will be associated to the level 3 Subcategories

This hierarchical organization is supported by the following attributes from the product Master Data :

  • ATR_PRODUCT_GROUP_ID_1 : Main category identifier

  • ATR_PRODUCT_GROUP_ID_2 : Subcategory identifier

  • ATR_PRODUCT_GROUP_ID_3 : Sub-subcategory (third-level group) identifier

These columns will create a structured link between each product and its parent categories, enabling the construction of a hierarchical tree used for product organisation.

This structure promotes standardisation, reuse of structure, and consistency in product lifecycle management.

The catalog will be integrated manually in the initial phase of the Build, However an intgration with the Master Product MAster Data is planned as part of the project.

The following Diagram represents this hierarchy:

Products Attributes

In the diagram above product criteria are represented in the green component and represents the list of attributes associated the products.

  • Green attributes represent selection criteria; meaning that the cn be used to dive into the product categories.

  • Blue attributes are used in the quoting process when products are selected and added to the agreement.

Product Data Source

Product Master Data From SAP

At Valio, SAP holds the Product Master Data and is the reference source for foundational product data. SAP data is synchronized into Price Manager as it is used in Pricing processes. SAP may be considered the leading source, especially for operational and transactional contexts.

Price Manager as primary source of product data for CPQ

The central platform for managing product information for CPQ is the Price Manager system. It acts as the main repository for product master data, consolidating both product attributes synchronised form SAP but also additional commercial or operational that are locally managed. PM should ensure that all product-related information is up-to-date and centrally governed for the CPQ.

  • Product Unit Of Measure

Locally managed product data in CPQ

The CPQ will plays a complementary role by housing product data that is either specific to the quoting processes (such as Product Groups). This data is either not implemnted in the integration between SAP and Price Manager or not locally managed in Price Manager. While Valio primarily manages product data in Price Manager and SAP, the CPQ system can still enrich the product definition with information such as product content details, descriptive models, and sales-related metadata. This information should structured to be easily accessible by the relevant sales and commercial teams during the quote creation process.

Data Governance Summary

To ensure full and consistent product characterization across the sales cycle, product information at Valio is sourced and maintained through the following system architecture:

  • SAP : Source of Product data for Price MAnager

  • Price Manager: Main source of truth for CPQ,

  • CPQ: Source of Product data related to the quoting process

Relate Technical Document : Product List and Catalog

This document is structured as follow:

Product List:

The Product List represents the exhaustive list of products and their attributes.

The complete set of attributes is presented in the columns of the “Product List” tab, with the following details:

  • Attribute ID : Technical name of the attribute in the CPQ System

  • Description : The Attribute’s description that will be visible for the user in the system

  • Type : Attribute data type (Integer, text…)

  • nature: either input field or list fields with a predefined list of values

Attributes list

This tab groups in one view all attributes declared in the product list tab, for ease of reading and for implementation

LoV

The "LoV" (List of Values) tab groups together the lists of values associated with the "list" fields.

Each LoV is defined with an ID and a description

Values descriptions are in finnish, they will be set in the finnish Localisation in the CPQ System. If they should be translated to english a translaction should be provided.

Catalog

Catalog displays the actual hierarchical structure as defined across the three levels of classification described above.
